Years ago, Alfred's moved to a new location, and packed up the classic 1920s decor for the move. So the new place has the red walls, huge chandeliers and mirrored columns. And some of the crusty waiters have been carried over too. One highlight of a visit to Alfred's is to order a caesar salad made tableside, correctly made, we might add with real egg, anchovies and garlic. Follow up with a mesquite grilled steak, the creamed spinach and a baked potato. The biggest offering is their 32 ounce porterhouse that literally overlaps the plate. Even a light eater can be happy with the filet, a more reasonable serving of beef for most. The peppered steak and other concoctions are just gilding the lily - stick with a straight steak. Service can be sharp or far too dull.
