Marcelle Bienvenu
Marcelle Bienvenu, a native of St. Martinville, La. has been a food columnist for The Times-Picayune in New Orleans since 1984.
Bienvenu has worked as catering director and consultant, and in public relations for several restaurants including Commander’s Palace, K-Paul’s Louisiana Kitchen in New Orleans and Brennan’s of Houston. From 1981-1984, she owned and operated her own restaurant, Chez Marcelle near Lafayette, La.
She edited the 1987 edition of THE TIMES-PICAYUNE’S CREOLE COOK BOOK, originally published in 1901 and reissued to celebrate the newspaper’s 150th anniversary.
She is the author of WHO’S YOUR MAMA, ARE YOU CATHOLIC AND CAN YOU MAKE A ROUX? and CAJUN COOKING FOR BEGINNERS published by Acadian House Publishing.
She is the co-author of several cookbooks with Chef Emeril Lagasse as well as EULA MAE’S CAJUN KITCHEN, published by Harvard Common Press. With Carl Brasseaux and Ryan Brasseaux she co-authored STIR THE POT: THE TRUE STORY OF CAJUN CUISINE, published by Hippocrene and released in September 2005.
She currently writes for several publications including The Forum and CityLife in Shreveport, and Louisiana Cookin’ in New Orleans.
